Position Overview:
The Project Accountant will play a vital role in ensuring the financial health of various projects from inception to completion. You will be responsible for project budgeting, cost tracking, financial reporting, and variance analysis. This role requires someone who can balance multiple projects simultaneously, has a strong understanding of project accounting principles, and enjoys collaborating with project teams to ensure financial objectives are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Budgeting & Forecasting:
Work closely with project managers to prepare and manage project budgets, ensuring alignment with overall company financial goals. Provide ongoing financial forecasting to anticipate and mitigate potential risks.
- Cost Tracking & Control:
Monitor and track project costs, ensuring that expenditures are within budget and financial resources are optimally used. Identify cost variances and work with project teams to implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Financial Reporting:
Prepare accurate and timely financial reports on project status, including cost performance, revenue recognition, and profitability analysis. Communicate financial performance to project managers and senior leadership.
- Invoice Management & Reconciliation:
Review and manage project-related invoices, ensuring accuracy and timely payment. Perform reconciliations between project costs, revenue, and actuals to ensure financial integrity.
- Contract & Compliance Management:
Ensure that financial aspects of contracts are properly recorded and monitored. Maintain compliance with financial regulations and contractual obligations, providing support for audits and reviews.
- Variance Analysis:
Analyse variances between budgeted and actual costs and revenues, identifying the reasons for discrepancies and recommending actions to improve financial performance.
- Collaboration with Project Teams:
Partner with project managers and other key stakeholders to ensure that financial considerations are embedded into project planning and execution. Provide financial insights to support decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications:
- CPA or CA qualification preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in project accounting or financial management.
- Strong understanding of project accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Excel.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with project teams.
- Experience in [specific sector] preferred but not essential.
